Biography: Ian Johnson is a Managing Director of Helmsman Capital, Australia’s leading turnaround capital fund manager. In his role at Helmsman Capital, Ian works closely with owners and management of Investee companies providing them with support and guidance in developing and implementing effective turnaround and development strategies. Ian was retained as a consultant by Macquarie Bank in 1998 to establish and manage a distressed asset business, and was a founding director of Helmsman Capital in 2002. He has worked in corporate and investment banking for over 25 years holding senior management roles with international and Australian trading banks. Ian is the current Chairman and Past President of the TMA.
