Charitable Activities

Foodbank Australia is the nation’s largest hunger relief organisation providing food and groceries to vulnerable Australians and TMA Australia is proud to be a part of its service.

Food Bank

Foodbank restores hope to people who are struggling by rescuing and sourcing food and groceries from farmers, manufacturers and retailers and distributing them to front line charities around the country to pass on to those in need.

Foodbank Australia is a proud member of the Global Foodbanking Network, an international organisation dedicated to developing foodbanking around the world. In Australia, Foodbank has a presence in every state and the Northern Territory with distribution centres in all state capitals as well as a number of regional centres.

Foodbank in your State

How does it work

Foodbank collects surplus, salvaged and donated food and grocery products from food producers, manufacturers, distributors and retailers and distributes it to charities and community groups to disseminate to people in need. This includes products which are out of specification, close to date code, have incorrect labelling or damaged packaging as well as excess stock and deleted lines. Without Foodbank much of this food would simply go to landfill.

The food rescued by Foodbank provides on average 166,000 meals a day. To read more about Foodbank Australia – click here

TMA Australia and Foodbank

In selecting a charity to support, the following factors stood out for TMA Australia and assisted the TMAA Board in identifying Foodbank Australia as its ongoing charity partner:

  • a national presence
  • a program that offered renewal, turnaround, workout or other form of outcome to assist individuals or organisations
  • an organisation with non-sectarian values adding to the community
  • an organisation of a scale that would value TMAA contributions
  • an organisation with existing corporate partners, offering programs in which members could participate.

TMA Australia’s vision is to align our member’s community investment contributions, both within their host employer and also within the TMA, at a financial, recognition and personal contribution level with Foodbank Australia.

TMA assists Foodbank to fight hunger in Australia via fundraising initiatives, direct investments and volunteer support. TMA Australia members have the opportunity to become involved in skilled volunteering projects with Foodbank across the country. Furthermore, TMA will also assist in raising awareness of the issue of food insecurity in Australia, and the work of Foodbank, through marketing and communications both internally and externally. Through the combined efforts of our TMA members, we aim to enhance Foodbank’s work to restore hope to those in need.
