Carl is an accomplished senior executive with turnaround and financial restructuring expertise with corporate strategy, finance, M&A integration and separation credentials across the UK, Asia and Australia. He has over 25 years financial and operational restructuring experience having led teams in complex restructuring projects across multiple industries. Carl was the national Turnaround Lead for KPMG Australia and retired from the KPMG partnership on December 2019.  Carl regularly presents on turnaround and restructuring topics, he holds a number of Company Director positions and continues to advise on turnaround matters. Carl held the roles of President and Chair of the TMAA and retired from the Board in 2022. Experience
  • Lead role in restructure and exit plan of underperforming business unit of ASX financial services corporate. (ongoing)
  • Led the working capital and operating model redesign of $1bn FMCG private operator. Identified $25m in margin and working capital improvements.
  • Led operational restructure of a $350m T.O industrial manufacturer and distributor and assisted the company identify $8m in margin improvement initiatives and $12m in working capital opportunities.
  • Led the operational restructuring and cost out review of a $1bn capitalised ASX listed mine operator. Carl led the KPMG team to assist the company identify $200m in cash savings and provided tools for management to commence a cultural cost change program.
  • Led the negotiation of an exit of a major renewables contract for an ASX 100 corporate following the insolvency of its JV partner.
  • Led the operational restructure of an $750m T.O ASX mining contractor resulting in the identification of over $40m in EBITDA improvements.
  • Advised a syndicate of lenders in respect of a $4bn port facility facing financial hardship.
  • Led the merger integration program for 3 NSW councils following the NSW Government’s announcement to merge councils in NSW
  • Led the operational and financial restructuring of a $370m T.O manufacturing operation in the building and construction sector.
  • Led the KPMG team to provide financial advice to an ASX 100 infrastructure service provider in respect of a highly stressed PPP ($2.4bn 30 year contract) and its contract with NSW Government.
  • Led a debt covenant review of an ASX listed renewable energy company. Company debt exceeded AU$1.3bn across assets in the US, EU and AU.
  • Led a restructuring review of a $250m T.O transport and logistics company. Carl was able to assist the company in restoring the confidence of its banker which allowed the company to negotiate a standstill agreement and commence a process of asset sales and refinancing.
  • Led a restructuring review of $400m T.O ASX listed metals recycling company. Having recommended both short and long term changes, the company’s Board used the review findings as a roadmap for the implementation of a restructuring plan.
